Witch on the Holy Night - Mahou Tsukai no Yoru - English Demo

At last, here comes the long-anticipated new work from Type-Moon, Mahou Tsukai no Yoru. The hype on this actually started way back when the project was announced in April 2008. It was initially scheduled to be released in 2009, then a series of delays pushed back the production until just recently, it was finally released on 12 April 2012. The demo version was released on December 2011. If you ask me, the delay was worth it.

The story is actually the first work from Kinoko Nasu, the founder and storywriter of TM. If you're familiar with Tsukihime or maybe just Melty Blood, you'll know Aozaki Aoko.

She's the main character in this story. You could say this is the prototype that brought forth Tsukihime. Well, maybe I'm a bit biased because Aoko is my favourite character in Tsukihime/Melty Blood series. The story depicts the earlier life of a young mage that is Aozaki Aoko, a time when she has yet to become one of the 5 Great Mages. A time when she was between the twilight of ordinary life and witchcraft. She lives with Alice Kuonji, a fellow mage. Telling more might spoil the fun, so let's leave the synopsis there.

This is just the demo. There are currently no full english translation of the complete game. I have to say the graphics are SUPERB. Animation mechanics I've never seen in previous VN's, totally nice menus, high resolution images(the demo only supports up to 1024x768). Heck, the frameskip is a bit low on my i3 + NV GT310m laptop in some movement scenes. And as always, BGM that very nicely suits the scenes. All in all, I'll be waiting for the English translation of the full game. The demo is only about 2-3hours, but look at the filesize. Holy.Shit.

Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo(MF links)

In the near future.

In a not so distant place.

There exists a society where law is based upon deterrence and criminals are assigned "obligations" fitting for their crimes.

Within this society, a man named Morita Kenichi aspires to the position of Special High Class Individual, one who holds authority over said criminals.

For the purpose of fulfilling his ambition, Kenichi returns to the town he once called home. There he will encounter three girls bearing "obligations" and there he will encounter the past he left behind.

Won't you join him in this story about how people relate to their society?

In this story about how a society relates to its people.

In this story about the girl amid the sunflowers growing in the country spinning like a wheel.

This is a story with a very good plot. The storytelling sucks. Yes, it sucks you into a twirling roller-coaster ride of emotions - enmity, compassion, empathy. Into the ugly truth of a corrupted society, where injustice, suppression and oppression is abound. Into the struggles of a man against all odds, be it the government or his haunting past. Be prepared for the ride.

This is Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo, brought to you by AkabeiSoft2. It is one of their earlier works(they also did G-Senjou no Maou) that made them famous to fans of this genre. As per usual with AkabeiSoft2, yet another story with plot twists and cliffhanging points, inviting player's curiosity of the next events to unfold. Basically if you like G-Senjou no Maou, you probably will like this too(and vice versa). Oh, forgot the comedy. Yes, there's comedy here.

Here's the opening video :

Some sample CGs:

Conclusion? I'd give it a 9/10. If worth mentioning, VA Norio Wakamoto(Charles vi Brittania) did a great job and was a perfect match to voice the role of THAT guy.

If you wish to avoid encountering any H-scenes, go for the harem route. It doesn't lessen the experience as the route in this game is pretty much linear. Only difference is who you will be with after the end of the story.

Note: If I remember, NoDVD patch is not included. Either find it yourself or mount image before starting the game.

Battle Moon Wars : The Best Edition(MF links)

To all Nasuverse fans out there(namely the series F/SN, Tsukihime, Kara no Kyoukai, Melty Blood), and also SRW game fans, if you never played this game, then I recommend you to download it right now and try it.

The story of the game starts in the Shin'i Headquarters, a youkai association, where you, playing as either Takumi or Haruna(original characters) are tasked to investigate an abnormal situation involving a disturbance in the Force(okay, it's not the Force, but something like that) in Misaki City, where the Tohnos live. Upon arriving, troubles arise faster than expected, and things does not seem to be what they look like. At the same time, Tohsaka Rin from the Mage Association, and Ciel from the Burial Agency of the Church was also dispatched there to resolve the impending crisis. Thus, begins the war to save the world(kind of).

Upon starting a new game, you are required to choose which route to take.

The combat system is similar to Super Robot Wars franchise, or if you are familiar with FF Tactics, Disgaea, and the like. Mainly like playing chess or war game, except that your pawns are far better compared to chess. There are 50 stages, with some unlockable characters.
A picture says a thousand words. How about a video?

The BGM? Awesome cake it is. Here's my favourite.

Now, the links.

Have fun.

G-Senjou no Maou (MF links)

It's time for a Visual Novel recommendation!
Marking the opening of my series(to be) of recommendation, I bring you G-Senjou no Maou, the highly-acclaimed visual novel from AkabeiSoft2, winning the Grand Prize of BishoujoGame Awards 2008.
So, what's so good about this game, you ask?
Here's the description(taken from VnDB)

You play the role of Azai Kyousuke, the son of a legendary gangster infamous in the underworld. You spend your time listening to Bach, playing God at school and covertly working for your stepfather, a ruthless financial heavyweight. This idyllic existence is broken when two individuals appear in the city - a beautiful girl named Usami Haru with hair you could get lost in for days, and a powerful international gangster known only as "Maou". Almost without delay, the two begin a deadly cat-and-mouse game, bringing you and your friends into the crossfire. Plotting, political intrigue and layer upon layer of interlocking traps are the weapons in this epic battle of wits.

Now that's done, let's take a look at the OP video, with the song "Answer" by Katakiri Rekka.

Usually, you can expect a story or series to be good when it has a good opening music and composition. Well, in this case it is.

For simplicity's sake, let's just say it's like Death Note, albeit with injections of steroids.
I recommend G-Senjou no Maou for fans of detective-based story, twisting plots and tearjerkers.
The BGM is fantastic. Fabulous. Amazing. Call it anything you want along those lines.
For fans of Fukuyama Jun(Lelouch, anyone?), rejoice!  \(^∀^)メ(^∀^)ノ  He plays the badass here.
And guess what, anti-hentai patch is available. Yaay!

Now then, the important part.

Enjoy. Stay tuned for the next share from me.
